Project PROTECT Milestone: Angels for Change and Medivant Healthcare Expand U.S. Supply of Critical Calcium Chloride Injection

TAMPA, FL – May 12, 2026 – Angels for Change announces a major milestone in Project PROTECT, its national initiative to establish ready-to-activate domestic capacity of essential medicines vulnerable to drug shortages before they impact patients.

10% Calcium Chloride Injection is now protected with onshore manufacturing readiness for the American public, helping safeguard access to this critical medicine during future supply disruptions.

Medivant Healthcare, a U.S.-based 503B outsourcing facility in Chandler, Arizona, has joined Project PROTECT as a new partner and received grant funding to establish ready-to-activate supply of 10% Calcium Chloride Injection—a critical medication used in emergency medicine, cardiac resuscitation, and intensive care.

This partnership strengthens U.S. manufacturing readiness and helps ensure clinicians have additional access to this essential therapy during a supply disruption.

Strengthening the U.S. Medicine Supply Chain

Launched in 2022, Project PROTECT takes a proactive approach to drug shortages by building onshore manufacturing capacity for essential medicines at risk. Through strategic partnerships and targeted grants, the program enables manufacturers to prepare supply in advance—before shortages occur—ensuring continuity of care when it matters most.

“Project PROTECT is about staying ahead of shortages before they reach patients. By partnering with Medivant Healthcare to protect Calcium Chloride Injection, we are strengthening our nation’s ability to respond to critical care needs and ensuring lifesaving treatment is available when seconds matter.”
— Laura Bray, Angels for Change

A Critical Medication for Emergency Care

Calcium Chloride Injection plays a vital role in treating life-threatening conditions, including cardiac arrest, severe hypocalcemia, and electrolyte imbalances. Despite its importance, it has  a history of shortage and remains vulnerable to supply disruptions.

By securing dedicated, ready-to-activate domestic supply through Medivant Healthcare, Project PROTECT is advancing national preparedness and safeguarding access for the most vulnerable patients.

“Project PROTECT represents a proactive, forward-looking approach to addressing drug shortages. We are proud to work with Angels for Change to build ready-to-activate domestic capacity for Calcium Chloride Injection and reinforce the reliability of the U.S. medicine supply chain.”
— Viraj Gandhi, CEO, Medivant Healthcare

Building a Proactive, Patient-Centered Model

Project PROTECT has already demonstrated measurable impact helping secure access to hundreds of thousands of treatments during recent national shortages by identifying vulnerable medicines and preparing supply in advance. Through partnerships, Angels for Change is building a scalable, sustainable model that strengthens domestic manufacturing, prioritizes patients, and transforms how the healthcare system responds to drug shortages from reactive to proactive.

About Project PROTECT

Project PROTECT is a national program led by Angels for Change that provides grant funding to U.S.-based 503B outsourcing facilities to proactively prepare essential medicines at risk of shortage. Founded in 2022, Project PROTECT has helped strengthen the U.S. supply of 14 essential medicines. To date, 7 of those medicines have entered shortage, and more than 800,000 patient treatments have been supplied during disruption periods. Project PROTECT received the CNN Heroes Health Care Champion award in 2023.
