Angels for Change Launches Project GOLD Phase 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Angels for Change Launches Project GOLD Phase 2, Expanding a Proven Model to Protect Cancer Patients from Drug Shortages

New medicines, new partners, and a growing national collaboration build on Phase 1 success to strengthen pharmaceutical supply chain resilience for all cancer patients.

TAMPA, Fla. — July 14, 2026 — Angels for Change (A4C) today announced the launch of Phase 2 of Project GOLD (Generic Oncology Lifesaving Drugs), expanding the nation's first collaborative initiative designed to proactively protect all cancer patients from drug shortages through strategic onshore buffer supply, early warning systems, coordinated stewardship, and patient-first leadership.

Building on the success of Phase 1, Project GOLD Phase 2 expands both the number of protected oncology medicines and the coalition of manufacturers and distributors working together to strengthen pharmaceutical supply chain resilience across the United States.

Expanding a National Collaboration

Project GOLD Phase 2 welcomes Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Hikma Pharmaceuticals, Morris & Dickson, and Pfizer as participating partners to the initiative, joining founding members Angels for Change, Cencora, Fresenius Kabi USA, and McKesson.

Together, these organizations represent leaders across manufacturing, distribution, and patient advocacy, creating a nationally coordinated collaboration focused on protecting patient access to lifesaving cancer medicines.

Expanding Protection

Project GOLD also expands the number of oncology medicines protected through participating members strategic U.S.-based buffer supply, growing from six to fifteen of the chemotherapies most vulnerable to shortage.

Phase 1 focused on six oncology medications:

  • Azacitidine

  • Dactinomycin

  • Decitabine

  • Docetaxel

  • Leucovorin

  • Levoleucovorin

Phase 2 adds on-shore buffer protection for nine additional oncology medicines to the program:

  • Carboplatin

  • Cisplatin

  • Daunorubicin

  • Doxorubicin

  • Etoposide

  • Fludarabine Injection

  • Fluorouracil (5-FU)

  • Methotrexate Injection

  • Paclitaxel

Using vulnerability data from the USP Medicine Supply Map and healthcare expertise from the Angels for Change Advisory Board, these medicines were selected because of their high clinical importance and elevated risk for shortage. Their addition significantly expands Project GOLD's ability to protect patients receiving cancer treatment across the country.

Building on Proven Success

Project GOLD launched in February 2025 with an ambitious objective: to demonstrate how proactive engagement, strategic buffer inventories, collaboration, and patient advocacy can reduce the risk of patient disruption during shortages. The initiative was designed to help inform how much buffer supply is needed, where it should exist, and how to keep critical medicines accessible for patients during a shortage.

Phase 1 validated this approach during a real-world supply disruption.

During the national leucovorin shortage, Project GOLD successfully protected patient access through strategic buffering, early warning systems, proactive coordination, and trusted governance. Patients supported through the Angels for Change Drug Shortage Hotline experienced no interruptions in care within the Project GOLD network. Providers maintained confidence in available supply, unnecessary panic purchasing was avoided, and collaboration across manufacturers and distributors helped maintain stability throughout the supply chain.

The findings, published in the Project GOLD Phase 1 White Paper, demonstrated that meaningful pharmaceutical supply chain resilience does not require building an entirely new system. Instead, it showed that trusted organizations working together around a shared commitment to patients can strengthen resilience using the infrastructure that already exists.

“Project GOLD Phase 1 proved that pharmaceutical supply chain resilience for all patients is not only possible, but scalable,”
— Laura Bray, Founder and Chief Change Maker of Angels for Change

"Project GOLD Phase 1 proved that pharmaceutical supply chain resilience for all patients is not only possible, but scalable," said Laura Bray, Founder and Chief Change Maker of Angels for Change. "Together, we demonstrated that strategic buffering, early warning systems, trusted partnerships, and patient-first leadership can protect all Americans during real-world supply disruptions. Phase 2 expands this proven model by protecting more medicines, engaging more partners, and creating a coordinated resilience network that patients and providers can rely on when disruptions occur."

A New Standard for Drug Shortage Resilience

Project GOLD represents a new model for strengthening pharmaceutical supply chain resilience through proactive preparation rather than reactive crisis response.

By combining strategic buffer supply, coordinated stewardship, early warning systems, and the Angels for Change Drug Shortage Hotline, Project GOLD brings together manufacturers, distributors, healthcare providers, and patient advocates to protect patients before shortages disrupt care.

As Project GOLD continues to grow, so does its vision: to establish sustainable protection for every oncology medicine vulnerable to shortage and create a scalable framework that can strengthen resilience across other essential medicines. Together, Project GOLD partners are demonstrating that protecting patients begins long before a shortage reaches the bedside.

About Project GOLD

Project GOLD (Generic Oncology Lifesaving Drugs) is the nation’s first collaborative pharmaceutical supply chain resilience initiative designed to strengthen access to critical cancer medicines and help protect patients from drug shortages. The initiative combines strategic onshore buffer supply, early warning systems, trusted coordination, and collaborative action across manufacturers, distributors, and patient advocates to create a more resilient oncology supply chain. Phase 1 launched in 2025 with six essential chemotherapies and four leading national healthcare partners, demonstrating that proactive, coordinated solutions can ensure care during real-world supply disruptions. Phase 2 launched in July 2026, expanding the model with four additional partners and nine more medicines essential to cancer care. Learn more at: https://www.angelsforchange.org/project-gold
