Angels for Change and Medivant Healthcare ...

Announcing: A new milestone to strengthen U.S. readiness for critical medicines.

Today, Angels for Change and Medivant Healthcare announced the completion of a key Project PROTECT milestone, establishing ready-to-activate U.S. manufacturing capacity for 10% Calcium Chloride Injection, an essential medicine used in emergency and critical care.

Through the partnership, Medivant has completed development of Calcium Chloride Injection and advanced the medicine into Project PROTECT’s readiness phase, creating domestic manufacturing capacity that can be activated when supply disruptions threaten patient access.

“Project PROTECT is about staying ahead of shortages before they reach patients,” said Laura Bray, Chief Change Maker at Angels for Change. “By partnering with Medivant Healthcare to prepare domestic capacity for Calcium Chloride Injection, we are demonstrating what proactive shortage preparedness can look like and building the ability to respond before a supply disruption becomes a patient crisis.”

Since launching in 2022, Project PROTECT has strengthened U.S. readiness for 14 essential medicines, seven of which have subsequently experienced shortages, with more than 850,000 patient treatments accessed during shortages.

Patient One, Now a Patient Advocate: Abby Bray ...

For the first time since 2019, Abby Bray is sharing her cancer journey in her own words.

For years, Abby kept her story private. Now, five years cancer-free, she is choosing to share her experience and use her voice to advocate for other patients facing drug shortages.

Abby was Patient One for Angels for Change.

Today, she is helping carry that mission forward as a member of the Angels for Change Patient Advocacy Board, which brings patients, caregivers, and lived experiences directly into our advocacy work.

Angels for Change Launches Project GOLD Phase 2

Project GOLD is growing. Building on the success of its groundbreaking first phase, Angels for Change has launched Project GOLD Phase 2, expanding the nation's first collaborative initiative designed to protect cancer patients from drug shortages. With new manufacturer and distributor partners and an expanded portfolio of 15 high-risk oncology medicines, Phase 2 strengthens a proven model built on strategic U.S.-based buffer supply, early warning systems, and cross-sector collaboration. Following the successful protection of patient access during the national leucovorin shortage, Project GOLD continues to demonstrate that when industry leaders unite around a shared commitment to patients, together we can build a more resilient pharmaceutical supply chain and help ensure lifesaving cancer treatments remain available when patients need them most.

Pharmacists can make shortage drugs, but at what cost?

Pharmacists increasingly are being asked to make drugs in bulk for hospitals that are in short supply, and they’re even beginning to make chemotherapies. But some in the industry worry about the unintended consequences of over reliance.

The hospital ran out of her child's cancer drug. Now she's fighting to end shortages

90% of the majority of medications Americans take are generics. These generics should never be in shortage, especially when patients' lives are at stake. At Angels for Change, we know there is a path forward. It is not our mission to simply help the crisis, but instill a permanent systemic change to end drug shortages.
